The Fachhochschule Stralsund - University of Applied Sciences |
Young and dynamic - that is the profile of the University of Applied Sciences, Stralsund. Since its foundation in 1991 the student body has steadily increased. At present 3000 students are enroled.
Our university is a campus university. That means that all lecture halls, seminar rooms and laboratories as well as the refectory, library, sports facilities and many places in student accommodation are situated in the park-like area of our university and near the Strelasund – offering a marvellous view of the Isle of Ruegen.
Most buildings and other facilities have been modernised and reconstructed. In 1995 a large area with student housing (Holzhausen), which offers 308 places, was built. New buildings for the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Business Studies were commisioned in 1997 and 2001, respectively.
The three schools Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Business Studies, Mechanical Engineering offer the following courses: Leisure and Tourism Management, Baltic Management Studies, Business Administration, Business Informatics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Master of Business Administration, Medical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering, as well as Business Administration and Engineering (also in the form of women’s studies, sandwich and supplementary courses).
In addition to teaching, Research has been continuously developed. Research in engineering mainly focuses on the interdisciplinary topic of "The use of renewable sources of energy/hydrogen technology".
The establishment of contacts to more than 70 universities abroad, the international study programmes of Baltic Management Studies and Leisure and Tourism Management as well as the ‘European Project of International Engineering’ point out the international character of our university.
Student life on the campus offers a wide range of recreational facilities. You may go in for different kinds of sports in the sports clubs of our university and watch films organised by our university’s film club. Whether you attend cultural events or go to student parties – there is always something going on on the university campus.
Due to its favourable location directly at the Strelasund and the sailing harbour, there are very good facilities for watersport activities. You can even obtain your sailing license here.
The University of Applied Sciences is also an attractive place for studies due to the friendly atmosphere of the old Hanseatic town Stralsund as well as the attractive surrounding area with the national park "Jasmund" and the "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft".
No wonder our motto is: “Studying where other people spend their holidays”.
