Although at present our theatre is under reconstruction, modern and classical performances are given at other locations in the town as well as in Greifswald and Putbus. Moreover, in the summer during the Baltic Sea Festival performances are given at the seaside stage with its fascinating view of the Isle of Ruegen.
In your spare time, you may also use the leisure facilities provided in the town. One of these is the ‘Hansedom’ which offers various opportunities for swimming and different kinds of sports as well as an oriental sauna area. Moreover, there is a cinema which presents the latest movies.
You may also enjoy the local dishes which are typical for the area of Mecklenburg and Western Pommerania. In particular, we can recommend the great variety of fish meals which are offered in many restaurants.
Party life is mainly in the hands of the student’s clubs of the university. One of the well-known student’s pubs is called ‘8cht VORNE’ and is situated in a basement with a rustic ambience. Live music and different theme parties create an ever changing atmosphere. The pub called ‘Campus’, founded by graduates of the university, promises interesting and eventful evenings in the historic part of the town. Those students who prefer a nearby pub that is within walking distance, may go to the ‘Haus 8’ pub situated on the campus.
The University Sports Club offers an appealing leisure programme for all students of the university, including chess, running, karate, football, volleyball and various kinds of water sports. Of course, you may also join the sports clubs of the town in order to go in for other kinds of sports. One important and well-known international swimming event, which is open for all people who enjoy swimming, is the so-called ‘Internationales Sundschwimmen’. It takes place at the first weekend in July each year and covers a distance of 2,400 meters.
